FAQs

 What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture, an ancient method of healing, has been used effectively to treat people worldwide for 3,000 years. Acupuncture works to achieve balance throughout the whole body. The acupuncturist can cure symptoms that lead to various disorders. However, it is up to the patient to change factors like diet, work, and sleep patterns, which have contributed to the illness. Long- term health can be achieved only through a team effort involving the acupuncturist and the patient. Both must be committed to bringing about a healthful change.

How does acupuncture work?

Oriental medicine holds that energy, or chi, circulates throughout the body in pathways or channels. When there is balance, the energy flows smoothly and there is vibrant health. When there is imbalance, blockages arise and manifest themselves tender points along the channels. Blocked points create illnesses. Acupuncture needles are placed in such a way as to free the blockages, allowing a smooth flow of energy. In this way, health and balance are restored to the whole body.

Why is acupuncture for you?

Everything we do affects our body. How we move, eat, sleep, and think determines how the body's energies interact. The interaction between our physical and mental energy determines the balance or imbalance of our being. Disharmonies are expressed as various symptoms.

How many treatments will I need?

The number of treatments depends on how long you have suffered from a particular illness and your relative strength. The number and frequency of treatments will vary as needed according to these factors.

Is acupuncture painful?

Acupuncture needles are nothing like the hypodermic needles used to give injections. They are much thinner, about the width of a human hair, or even smaller. When a skilled acupuncturist inserts the needles, there is usually no pain at all; occasionally, the sensation may be like a brief mosquito bite. Most of the time, patients find the treatments extremely relaxing and often fall asleep.

Is acupuncture safe?

Acupuncture is extremely safe. All inserted needles are factory sterilized and then immediately disposed of after use.
